December has been a very slow month for the Honor Guard. That is good for our veterans since we had fewer funerals than normal. In the past year we have had 75 of our members pass away. Members are hard to replace.
In December, the Post 3 Honor Guard assisted the Military Honors Teams at 5 funerals and made appearances at 2 civic functions: Those civic functions were the Governor’s Proclamation of Wreaths Across America at the State Capitol and Wreaths Across America at Wyuka Cemetery.
In calendar year 2023, the Honor Guard was asked to assist the Military Honors Teams at 106 funerals and was present at 53 civic functions. The effort the Honor Guard makes to honor our deceased veterans and for appearances at local civic functions are greatly appreciated. I want to thank everyone involved for their continued support.
If you want military funeral honors conducted by your branch of service, you must produce a copy of your DD 214. Let your family know of your request and let them know where your paperwork is located. If you can’t find your DD214, you may request a copy by logging on to https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records and completing the form.
