AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY

VISION 2020

This is the theme chosen for membership in the

American Legion Auxiliary. What is

your vision? Do you want to see more

veterans served by our organization?

Do you want to offer more girls the

opportunity to attend American Legion

Auxiliary’s “Cornhusker” Girls State

program each year? Do you want

to provide scholarships for youth to

continue their education beyond high

school?

Meetings are held at the Elks Lodge, 5910 South 58th Street, at 7:00 p.m.

on the 2nd Tuesday of each month (except July and August). The Elks serve

hamburgers and fixings beginning at 6:00 p.m., and some members arrive early

to have a meal before the meeting. The cost is reasonable, and it gives everyone

time to visit.

Some special things that are coming up this fall include:

¤ September 10th Unit 3 meeting with 2019 Girls State citizens as

special guests to report on their experiences while learning more about our

government and themselves. We will also recognize three recipients of $500 Unit

Scholarships.

¤ September 21st (Saturday) Lincoln Unit 3 is hosting the District Twelve

Fall Meeting at the Cornhusker Bank Center, 8310 O Street, Lincoln, with

registration at 9:00 a.m. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. A salad luncheon will

be provided by those in attendance, and we’ll complete the meeting by midafternoon.

Mark your calendar now and bring your favorite salad on September

21st. (District Twelve includes ALA units in Cass, Lancaster, Otoe, and Seward

counties.)

¤ November 12th We’ll be having cake and coffee at the meeting, so come

and enjoy this time with us. November 10th is the 100th birthday of the National

American Legion Auxiliary! What a great time to recall some of the early days

of Unit 3.

¤ November 13th We’ll be helping with Lancaster County Government Day

at the County-City Building. Students from area schools will be learning more

about the duties and responsibilities of our county officials. Posts and units in

Lancaster County will provide lunch for the students and their chaperones..

¤ December 10th We’ll be collecting non-perishable food items, cleaning

supplies, and household items for veterans at the Victory Park Apartments and

Lincoln VA outpatient clinic on South 70th Street. We also have a joint social

time with The American Legion Post 3 following our separate meetings. Snacks

and card bingo are on the agenda.
